- Does Toggl have a meaning? Or did you just make it up?
Well, Toggl comes from the word "toggle" which is an apparatus to turn something on and off... kind of like the red button we use to track time. We dropped the "e" on the word "toggle" to make it shorter and a bit more fun.
- Toggl is free? There must be a catch, right?
Basic functionality is free and always will be. There are some Premium features added for folks that need some additional functionality and these features have a small charge. More on Premium below.
- How can I join Toggl?
Anybody can easily join Toggl. Just use the Sign Up Now link on the main page.
- Do you have an API?
- Is my data safe?
- What languages does Toggl support? How can I change them?
You can currently use Toggl in English, Estonian, German and Spanish. You can change your language under My settings.
- I'd like to use Toggl in my native language, but it isn't on the list. Can I help?
Of course, we welcome any and all help from our users. If you want to
help translate Toggl into your language, just let us know through the
Feedback page and we will contact you ASAP.
- There is no email or phone number posted on the web site... so what if I have a problem?
Toggl encourages its users to utilize the "Give us Feedback" link in
the application. We will try to respond to feedback within 1 business
day.
We also have a blog with more information about Toggl's features and updates.
- Could I login with my e-mail address?
You can use both your username and your e-mail address to login to Toggl.
- Can I change my username?
No, currently you can't change your existing account's username. If you
still really, really want to, you can delete your current user's e-mail
address and create a new user.
- I don't like keeping my browser open all the time.
The good news is, you don't have to. You can start your timer, close
the browser and when you log back on, the time will still be running as
if nothing happened.
Or you can use Toggl Desktop.
- What browsers are supported?
Toggl runs fine with Mozilla Firefox 1.5 and up, Internet Explorer 6
and 7. We are working on Opera and Safari support at the moment.
- Can you export a time report to Excel or into Quickbooks?
Toggl supports exporting reports in PDF and CSV formats. To do that click on one of the icons in the top right corner on the reports page.
Quickbooks support is currently not available.
- How can I filter my reports?
Toggl has some built-in filters you can use to view reports for certain
time periods (such as today, yesterday, this week, last week etc), but
you can also set the period manually using the date fields or calendar
buttons. Then there are filters for viewing general user or project
statistics for a given period as well as weekly views for both. There
is also the custom filter described below.
- How does the custom filter work?
In the text field you can enter words or parts of words that apply to
the usernames, users' full names, clients' and projects' names. You can
exclude results if you add a "-" sign in front of a word.
- Who can view the reports?
By default, only people in the project member list and workspace
managers can see your project reports. However, if you have set the
project visible to everyone in the workspace (in project details), then
everyone will be able to see the reports also.
- I completed my task today but it shows a different day in the report!
Reports show tasks organizing them by their start date, not completion
date. If you started a task yesterday, the time spent on it will be
shown on yesterday's report even though you completed it today.
- Sorry if this is really obvious, but I can't find how to add tasks to a project from the web interface. I can only do it from the desktop application. Thanks.
To add tasks from the web, just click on the "Start" button in front of the project name you wish to track time on.
- Can I enter time in some other format besides HH:MM:SS while editing it?
Yes, there are actually quite many other options. For example instead
of 01:30:00 you can enter simply 1,5 or 1,5h for that, 1:30 does the
trick too. 90 or 90m or 90 min also means the same. But be careful,
because while 2,0 means 2 hours, just 2 means 2 minutes. 120s or 120
sec is automatically counted as 2 minutes and so is 0:2. When entering
time, you can use both . and , as decimal symbols.
- Help! I tracked time on a wrong project.
Don't worry, you can change the project from the Edit task window. To
open that, find the task in the report and click on its description.
- Why should I close my tasks?
The best way to use Toggl's time tracking is to divide your bigger
tasks into smaller ones that you can track and complete independently.
If the task is very time consuming but cannot be divided into smaller
parts, you can create a new task with the same name each day and close
it in the evening.
That way you'll be able to keep track of how much
time was spent on that task on a daily basis. You can also read the how-to in our blog.
- I completed my task but I can't see it in the report.
Reports show tasks organizing them by their start date. If you started
a task last week and closed it today, then it will be visible in last
week's report.
- If I am timing a task and then move to another workspace and start a new project, will the timer automatically stop running?
No. It will continue running until you stop it, or until you start
timing a new task. The reason is that this function provides the
possibility of timing a task that involves creating new projects or new
workspaces.
- Could I close a task in just one click instead of having to confirm it always?
You can set your preference under My settings whether or not Toggl will ask for confirmation on closing a task.
- Can I track time on several tasks at once?
No, you can actively track time on only one task at a time. However,
you can have many tasks open at the same time and switch tracking time
between them as often as necessary.
- Can I edit the time?
No problem. You can just click on the time of the task to edit it. Check out the
step-by-step tutorial in our blog.
- I'd like to change time on a closed task. How can I do that?
You can do that if you locate the task in a report and click on its
description. The Edit task window will then open where you can change
the task details, like time, date or even project.
- How can I track time worked offline?
For that you can simply create a new task and set it's time and date manually by clicking on either one of them.
